TAKE-IT TOO is split up into three different stages. Each stage will have a different type of participation from the participant, patient, or health care professional.

Patient Participation

Time Commitment: 2 hours

Patients will participate in a focus group with 5-7 other patients in the same age range. To see if you qualify to be a part of this study please see the patient eligibility tab.

Focus Groups will be held in comfortable rooms in our study sitelocations. Refreshments and small snacks will be provided, as well as reimbursement for all travel costs and parking fees related to attending a focus group meeting.

The information gathered from these focus group sessions will be used in the design and implementation of the pillbox, companion website, and coaching methods for the adolescent transplant recipients receiving the intervention in stage 3 of the study.

Time Commitment: 2 hours per session for 3 sessions over a 2-year period, plus 3 weeks of using the new electronic pillbox at home.

Patients will look at different possible models of a new electronic pillbox and give feedback. They will have the chance to contribute to what a new device will be like. As development of the new electronic pillbox progresses, they will get to try more and more developed models. Finally, they will test the final prototype at home for 3 weeks by using it to store their medications.

Participants of stage 3 will use the novel TAKE-IT TOO e-pillbox to store their medications and have their medication-taking tracked. Patients at intervention centres will also meet with a coach at regular intervals and will be able to track their own adherence on a companion website or app. Patients at usual care sites will only use the pillbox but will not meet with a coach and will not be able to use the tracking website or app until the study is finished. If they want to continue using the pillbox and have access to the tracking website, they will be allowed to do this for a period of 20 weeks after the end of the study.

Parent Participation

Time Commitment: 2 hours

Parents will participate in a focus group with 5-7 other parents of patients of similar age to their child. To see if you qualify to be a part of this study please see the parent eligibility tab.

Focus Groups will be held in comfortable rooms in our study site locations. Refreshments and small snacks will be provided, as well as reimbursement for all travel costs and parking fees related to attending a focus group meeting.
